«PLACExNordic is Northern Europe’s meeting place for everyone working with place attractiveness – whether it’s about attracting talent, investment, visitors, or creating thriving communities for the people already living there» states the organisiers.
Among the competent speakers, Nicole Zwetsloot, Brainport Eindhoven addressed the need to facilitate for spouses when establishing high-competence jobs. These challanges are especially visible in periphery regions, such as our own.
The «social media professor» Niklas Myhr, Chapman University had an inspiring talk on how to highlight possibilites within regions, rather than only challanges. According to Myhr, promoting beautiful nature is not sufficient in establishing place attractiveness.
While the speakers promoted different perspectives on place attractiveness, the overall message shows that the challanges and opportunities we face in the nordics, are quite similar.
«Tromsø is our template in how to make a northern nordic city attractive» said one the fellow participants. In this context, one can certainly tell that Tromsø has done something correct in place branding.
The final stop went to Skellefteå Droneport, right outside the city. Here the participants got to learn about Skellefteås massive commitment to low-threshold drone aviation. Actors from all over Europe, alongside the US come to Skellefteå to test their drones. ProTromsø’s representative, Kristian Daljord, had the opportunity to fly a drone himself. A task he was very pleased with.

The Team Nordic Arctic is a project funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Arktis 2030. The goal of the project, led by ProTromsø, is to strengthen the North Nordic region through business collaborations. The project aims to enhance the cooperation between Norway, Sweden and Finland in the Arctic by applying Norwegian know-how on Arctic society, business, and knowledge.
The overall goal of the project is enhanced Nordic cooperation in the High North in difficult times. We aim to strengthen the Arctic communities in the Nordic countries through sustainable business development, recruitment of youth talents and the inclusion of indigenous people and minorities. One of the main work packages includes Arctic Business Matchmaking in each of the three partnering countries, held in Oulu, Finland, Umeå, Sweden and Tromsø, Norway.
